Why Cloth?
Congratulations on considering cloth for your child and home!
Deciding to use cloth diapers, in
particular, may seem like a large decision that can alter your
habits and routines. It is not as complicated
as it can seem!
To begin with, you can be very pleased with the amount of money that
can be saved by choosing cloth
diapers! For a great cost comparison, visit the Diaper Decisions
Comparison Chart.
Cloth diapers have changed dramatically over the years, too! You
will find that there are many "systems"
for cloth diapering your child.
You may choose a system that uses mainly AIO (All In One) diapers,
which are most like disposables and
do not require a cover. These are great if Daddy or a sitter will be
helping. Many childcare facilities are
also now allowing the use of cloth diapers!
You may decide on a Pocket Diaper systems, which allows you to
"stuff" the diaper to suit the absorbency
needs of your baby, but will dry much more quickly than an AIO.
Fitted diapers and traditional prefold diapers require a cover to
make them waterproof, but offer the
option of using more natural and organic fabrics on your child. Or,
you may decide that a combination
of these will work best for you! With a little reseach into what is
available, and some evaluation of your
available money and time, you will find what works best for you.
If you have questions about the types of diapers, how many you may
need, or just want to talk about
cloth diapering to get some perspective from someone with much
experience, please do not hesitate to
